Campus Customs opened over 30 years ago as a licensed retailer and manufacturer of Yale University apparel and merchandise. Today, the family-run business has expanded dramatically — it now produces custom merch and apparel for thousands of clients, including other universities (UConn, UMass, Princeton, Dartmouth), businesses (Modern Apizza, Sony Ericsson), events (Special Olympics, New Haven Open) and even rock ‘n’ roll bands (Sister Hazel, Seven Mary Three, The Alternate Routes).

No matter how big or small the project, Campus Customs’ staff approaches each job with a personalized touch and with painstaking attention to detail — co-owners Joel and Jeremy Cobden see to it that the exceptional customer service, established by their father Barry Cobden when he founded the business, remains a top priority and a defining quality of the whole operation.

Campus Customs’ 2,800 square-foot store in the heart of New Haven’s Broadway district offers the broadest selection of Yale merchandise and apparel anywhere in the world. Behind the store lies a 15,000 square-foot production facility (in the former York Square Cinema) where all the graphic design, web design, screenprinting, embroidery and custom printing jobs are carried out. Having the facility on-site allows for quick turnarounds, giving the company a competitive edge in the fast-paced, modern marketplace, while retaining a warm, locally-rooted atmosphere.

In recent years, a branch of the business called Soundwave has emerged with a concentration on providing emerging bands and recording artists with the resources they need to thrive in the music industry. Soundwave services include website & webstore design, and t-shirt designing & printing. Not content to tread the well-worn roads of the music business, Soundwave’s staff seeks to create new pathways to help redefine the ever-changing industry and improve upon the old ways of doing things.
